International fashion photographer, Donna DeMari - the first woman to shoot Sport’s Illustrated’s swimsuit issue - has been photographing horses for more than two decades, a love affair that began at the age of four.
Almost ten years ago, Ralph Lauren discovered her equine photographs and they have been decorating the walls of Ralph Lauren stores around the world ever since, everywhere from France to Korea. Her photographs have appeared life sized in the windows of Ralph Lauren’s Flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York, as well as Beverly Hills and the Hampton stores.
DeMari is an American born photographer , self taught, who began her career in Milan, Italy at the age of nineteen. She began working straight away for such prestigious magazines such as Italian Vogue, French Marie Claire, British Elle, British Bride’s, L’Officiel, and British, German and Australian Vogue, among many others.
She spent over fifteen years, living and working in Paris, Milan and London .During these years, she traveled the world on location, working with such well known persons as Kate Moss, Tyra Banks , Heidi Klum and Arizona Muse.
After returning permanently to the US, DeMari has increasingly focused on photographing horses, bringing her fashion aesthetic and intimate style to her equine subjects. DeMari has shown her work in numerous exhibits and published six books of photographs. She has been featured ABC and VH1 Television, and was the subject of Equestrian Life’s TV series, “For the Love of the Horse”.
She has been profiled in numerous equestrian publications including Equestrian Culture and Art Horse. Most recently, one of her photographs appeared on the cover of The Competitive Equestrian, where she was featured in an article entitled “Lens Envy”.
